Admission Criteria or Requirements to the Programme

The Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, and Statistics programs adheres to the admission policy of the University of the Philippines for incoming freshmen. The program is a quota course so it accepts a limited number of freshmen students; around sixty (60) freshmen every Academic Year. The selection procedure in the program is set by the University through different methods, which include (a) yearly college admission test or UPCAT / UPCA, (b) The Iskolar ng Bayan Program (INB) where eligible applicants are those Filipino public highschool graduates who qualified as Top Ten in their graduating class, (c) International Qualifications, and (d) Transfer Admissions (not for first year applicants).

UP College Admission Test (UPCAT)

The program is a quota course where qualified UPCAT passers in the program are assessed based on their UPG. The guidelines for the admission of the UPCAT passers are posted at the university website. The flowchart for admission for UPCAT takers may also be accessed via the UPV CRS website.

Applicants who are eligible to take the UPCAT are graduating senior high school students who have not taken any college courses or have not taken the UPCAT before.

Applicants should have a final grade for three (3) high school years preceding the year of graduation.

They should come from accredited high schools of the Department of Education (DepEd) or from a secondary school abroad.

There are five (5) steps included in the application for the UPCAT. Applicants must:

Fill out application Form 1 (UPCAT Application for Freshman Admission) online on or before the given deadline;

Give UPCAT Form 2 (Secondary School Record) to their high school principal/school head to be filled out;

3

Pay the UPCAT application fee if they are foreign applicants;

4

Submit the completed UPCAT Forms 1 and 2 and all the other required documents; and

5

Claim their Test Permit. They will be notified through email if their Test Permit is already available.

Upon filling up the application form, applicants must choose two (2) UP campuses among all UP campuses nationwide, and their choice of degree programs, up to two (2) for each campus in order of their preference. The UPCAT consists of four (4) subtests:

which will last for five (5) hours per day in a course of two (2) days. Standardized UPCAT scores are combined with the weighted average of the last 3 years of high school final grades to determine the UP admission grade (UPG). To implement the policy of demographic access, UP also considers socioeconomic and geographic factors in its admission process

UPCAT results are released the year after the examination before the new academic year starts. The list of qualified applicants will be released through online media, posted at the Office of Admissions of the University, sent to the school principal and individual notices will also be sent to all examinees. The qualified applicants will need to register according to the instruction provided by the college or unit to which he/she has been accepted.
