A team of UPV and UPD students emerged as champions during the final round of AIA LifeHackers 2022: HackVenture competition (for the Products/Services category), held last February 25, 2023, at Marquis Events Place, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
Team Pending is composed of UPV Computer Science students John Markton Olarte, Erru Torculas, and Mariefher Grace Villanueva, and UPD Tourism and Industrial Engineering students KC Anne Isturis and Misael Angelo Zausa, respectively. The team beat over a 100 starting teams and initial Top 20 qualifiers for the Products/Services category and took home the P100k top prize.
AIA Philippines, the largest publicly listed life insurance group in the Pan-Asia region, launched the competition with the aim to solve the question – “In a cluttered digital landscape where all competitors are trying to catch the attention of consumers, how might we generate quality leads that are primed to either start a conversation with an adviser or purchase a life insurance policy?”
Team Pending, with their solution AIA Adapt, involved generating life insurance policies that are customizable, flexible, and cover a wide range of insurance components. Particularly, they want to give the customers control over what goes into their life insurance policy and allow them to manage the price of premiums. The customers can flexibly upgrade and downgrade the premiums based on their current financial situation.
It is also worth noting that Team Pending is one of the Top 3 teams to win in the Technology category. Their solution involved developing a web-based application with a simple, intuitive, and interactive user experience to attract prospects and improve customer retention.
Another team from UPV, Team AIAgoy Mapriso Ka, is included in the Top 3 out of the 20 qualifiers for the Marketing category. The team is composed of BSBA Marketing students Jayson Padua, Jorge Aldwin Alpuerto, Kimberly Kate Barredo, Lynnio Mikhael Aguilar, and Press Ann Giselle Olores. They proposed the campaign “Gab-AIA: Your Future, Our Guide” with the aim to raise awareness, encourage the purchase of AIA Philippines financial policies, and maximize the exposure of the company to potential clients.
The competition demonstrated the growing importance of technology and innovative ideas in the insurance industry and the potential for young talents to contribute to its development. It is hoped that the Team Pending and Team AIAgoy solutions will inspire other innovators to develop similar solutions that can make insurance more accessible and user-friendly to the public.
